“Hardly anyone knows that a secret tunnel runs deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean. In May 2008, more than a century after it was begun, the tunnel will finally be completed. Immediately afterwards, an extraordinary optical device called a Telectroscope will be installed at both ends which will miraculously allow people to see right through the Earth from London to New York and vice versa.” - HOLY SHIT! On view in Brooklyn starting May 22 — link

Today I imagined the center of gravity changing in skyscrapers around manhattan as people moved closer to eastern facing windows to get a bit of sun. As a result buildings begin to lean toward the sun, too, and follow it throughout the day, like big sunflowers.

Delivery men and tourist walking through the streets will also start to slowly lean toward the sun in order to be parallel to these buildings, unconsciously, as they guide our sense of what is straight and vertical. In this manner people’s shoes begin to ware at their edges, due to their now uneven stride, and we can explain why there are so many old shoe repair shops in midtown Manhattan.

In the late afternoons, during the exodus of the office dwellers from Manhattan buildings sway violently back and forth as people empty out. People in New Jersey (whoever they are) jealously think all New York is partying. They hum to themselves “raise your hands in the air, raise em like you really don’t care.” The sound from this massive unconscious hymn heats the air as it blows toward Manhattan, pulling in moisture from the Hudson on it’s way over, and gives rise to the famously humid New York summers.
